Evolutionary physics of biological molecules, development, and disease.
Welcome to Immortal Electrons, a writing project by Alex Kentsis, MD, PhD.
Although biology and physics have diverged in academic disciplines and popular thinking in the twentieth century, recent discoveries have transformed how we understand living things. In this book, I aim to show how modern physics and biology have now converged on key shared concepts. As a biologist, physicist, and doctor, I will detail the physical properties of biological molecules, cells, and our bodies, and relate them as unified products and mechanisms of physics and evolution. The resultant evolutionary physics connects the principles of natural selection and thermodynamics as they govern molecular and cellular processes responsible for the function of biological macromolecules and cells. In turn, this provides fundamentally physical explanations for complex biologic phenomena.
Immortal Electrons not only seeks to broaden our conception of the science of living things but should also be vital to understanding the role of physics and evolution in human development and disease. Its evolutionary physics aims to replace miracles and bad luck in human biology and medicine with an intuitive understanding of the biophysical world, making it more accessible to scientists, doctors, philosophers, and thinkers alike.
